Whilst we have been hunkering down this winter, the exploits of the Bridgerton family and their London set have filled our screens with much needed fun, frivolity, and pure escapism. Cavorting around their Palladian mansions in the most sumptuous costumes, the series has been a feast for eyes, creatively complemented by the understated opulence of the interior design backdrop, setting the scene for many a party or awkward drawing room conversation.
The regency period was without doubt, a period of history characterised by its extravagance: a last hurrah before the restraint of the distinctly less colourful Victorian period. As the economy thrived, those with money loved nothing more then quite literally putting their wealth on show, and then inviting high-society to visit, providing ample opportunity to show it off. Bridgerton gives us this look amplified even more to create a truly romantic and inspiring setting.
If you want to put a contemporary spin on Bridgerton’s regency style then we suggest following the below
Symmetry
The Georgians loved symmetry in both their architecture and interiors, not only was it fashionable, but it also helps to give sense grandeur, as well as visually enlarging a space. Using contemporary furniture to dress this beautiful toom, the symmetrical placement of the furniture draws attention to the marble feature fireplace as well as a statement art-piece. The placement of each of the sofas opposite one another highlights the function of this space as being a place to socialise and invite guests to enjoy an animated fireside conversation.
