Capturing the outside culture

Based in East London, Shoreditch is a well-known arty area adjacent to the equally hip neighbourhood of Hoxton. An eclectic dining scene features everything from trendy chain restaurants and smart gastropubs to artisan coffee shops and vintage boutiques. This unique loft, once a former iron works was an incredible project for the team to create an eclectic and industrial style in keeping with area and the properties history.

Embracing the space

When styling an industrial loft space, it’s important for the design scheme to embrace the original industrial features of the property. Lofts are usually full character, such as original features like this loft with its double height ceilings, exposed brick, wooden floorboards and a mezzanine with its original iron pillars. It was crucial that the styling reflected these features and showed this off to the potential buyers.

Adding unique art and vintage pieces

Based in the heart of Shoreditch with its renowned vibrant art and music scene and vintage boutique shops around every corner the team planned in incorporate these elements within the styling. It’s possible to mix industrial style with many different decorative tastes such as vintage styling items, abstract artwork and colourful prints which reflects its surroundings. You don’t have to go full-on industrial to get elements of this style in your home.

Materials Matter

When designing an industrial style loft introduce materials within the finishes which represents the existing original raw materials. Rustic wood and exposed metal are a key combination of industrial furniture design. The team incorporated this gorgeous rustic metal and wood dining table with black metal dining chairs. The jugs on the dining table and skis where sourced from a local vintage market! If you can get your hands on antique pieces directly, then even better!

Add some warmth

Adding warmth to an industrial loft is important as a lot of metal can feel quite cold. Distressed leather is key to add some warmth as well as using a large metal dome pendant lamp and table lamps to help illuminate the cold space. Large rugs are also a great addition to adding some cosiness to the living areas.

Feel the Flow

It’s important when designing a large loft space for the layout to allow free movement. Large spaces with expansive floors can sometimes feel bare and overwhelming. Creating zones is a great way to break up the space and make the space feel more of a home.
